Preparing & Coping with Change

Being in your 20s, and dealing with change, can be one of the most challenging periods in your life.

Trying to live up to parents’ expectations and pressure from society, figuring out who you really are and what you really want to do, and so many other life-changing moments; calling it hard can be an understatement.

In the end, just remember to do what makes YOU happy and try your best to focus on yourself

For me personally… I graduated college at 21 and had big dreams to move across the country with my boyfriend, travel the world, get a dog, have a high-paying fun job, and just live my best life.

I will share some helpful tips and tricks that I have used that helped me thrive and work towards my goals! <3

Organization/Goals

Everyone since grade school always said to keep an agenda or you will not remember anything, you will fail quizzes, and it would be the end of the world basically.

…and they aren’t totally wrong, just a little dramatic.

Those who have the memory of a wizard, good for you, I am jealous, but also an agenda isn’t just about remembering things.

It is also about feeling accomplished, reaching your goals, following up on certain things, and truly being organized.

Writing down the important things will help you visualize what you need to do and the steps to take in order to complete the task.

1st Step:

Go to Target, Amazon, or a local small business in your area that might sell agendas and find the one that speaks to you.

You will have it for the rest of the year and use it every day, so treat yourself to something you really like.

2nd Step:

Start writing down upcoming events that are important (birthdays, interviews, work schedule).

Then each day write down 3 goals for yourself (apply for a new job, research best dogs for apartments, make a grocery list for next week).

And then write down 3 goals for the week (work out in the morning 4x, make plans with a friend, watch YouTube videos on blogging).

Don’t feel the need to write everything down in your agenda! You don’t want to overwhelm yourself with too many things happening in the day, it could cause the reverse effect. Buying a notebook is the perfect place to write down anything & everything else.

3rd Step

Find or buy a highlighter and begin highlighting the things you have accomplished and watch yourself become more focused, motivated, and organized.

Highlighting the things you have accomplished will give you the motivation to keep working towards your goals.

Make writing in your agenda a part of your daily routine

Health

I am not going to tell you to work out or eat a specific diet, just here to share my personal advice and what works for me and others.

Reminder: Health is defined in many different ways from your physical health to your mental health.

Health is defined in many different ways from your physical health to your mental health. Remember to take care of yourself!

Physical Health

I enjoy doing at-home workout routines, yoga, hiking, and going on walks. These are all forms of exercise that don’t involve going to the gym or lifting weights (if that is what you are interested in).

There are many different physical exercises that don’t require being the strongest, the most flexible, or running the fastest.

I struggled with this in college after playing sports my whole life and having my routines and practices all laid out for me. It was a challenge doing it all on my own and finding what worked best for me.

You just have to find your happy medium and what works best for yourself!

It is scientifically proven that increasing your heart rate had tremendous health benefits. Now you just find what works for you and make it a routine.

Mental Health

Something just as important as physical health, if not more important, is mental health.

It is so easy to get wrapped up in other peoples’ success, families’ expectations, and relationships.

How I cope with pressure, stress, and being anxious is:

  • taking breaks from social media
  • reading before bed
  • meditating
  • go for a walk or drive (and somehow I end up at Target sometimes lol)
  • listen to upbeat, happy music or my record player

It is VERY important to take care of yourself before anything else! Find what makes you happy and what relaxes you. It is different for everyone.

Reading before bed is a great way to sleep better and calm your brain

Money & Finances

Everyone knows that money doesn’t buy happiness… but it can buy things that you really want. For example, a trip to the Caribbean or even a new car!

The key to buying these things is to either be rich and have a lot of money OR to save.

I’ll be the first to say… saving is so hard, especially when you have student loan debt, an entry-level job salary, and bills you never thought you’d have.

First Step:

Make/buy/download a monthly budget sheet!!

It can be as basic or as fancy as you want.

As long as it does the job it should be good enough!

Second Step:

Update the balance sheet every day!

This way you can see where you may be able to decrease spending in certain areas that otherwise might not have been obvious AND put more money into your savings/stocks/financial accounts.

Third Step:

Set financial goals for yourself (weekly budgets, monthly savings, yearly saving goals)

I mean at the end of the day… the more money saved the more money you can spend doing the things you love. A lack of money can also cause a lot of unwanted stress

If you are organized, writing down goals, property take care of yourself physically & mentally, and aware of your finances; you are off to a great start!

Please let me know your thoughts below & if any of these things have helped you cope with the change happening in your beautiful life <3
